Project Spotlight: Huntsville School

Iron Ridge, AB

The new Huntsville School provides a vibrant and inclusive environment where students, teachers, and families can come together to learn and grow. Designed with a renewed sense of identity for the community of Iron Springs, the facility embraces modern educational philosophies inspired by Alberta’s Inspiring Education mandate while drawing design influence from the region’s rich agricultural heritage.

Originally planned as a K–9 facility, the project evolved into a K–12 school, ensuring continued learning opportunities for the entire community. The new building includes one modular classroom unit, with the capacity to expand by an additional three modules as enrollment grows.

Huntsville School now offers all the amenities of a modern educational facility including a learning commons, gymnasium, classroom kitchen, welcoming gathering spaces, and a new playground, each designed with accessibility and community use in mind. Together, these features provide opportunities for connection, collaboration, and lifelong learning.

Spaces Inc. collaborated closely with Huntsville School to bring this vision to life. The goal was to create flexible, student-centered environments that support a range of teaching methods and learning styles. Understanding the school’s vision for balance and adaptability, Spaces Inc. applied its student-focused design philosophy, empowering learners to choose how and where they learn best while enabling educators to adapt their classrooms with ease.

To achieve this flexibility, Virco ZHEXM Student Desks were selected for their reconfigurable design, allowing quick transitions between collaborative and individual setups. Virco Stand-Up Tables were also incorporated to provide students with the freedom to stand and stay engaged during lessons.

A unique element of this project was the inclusion of custom-branded furniture. Tabletops throughout the school feature the Huntsville Howlers logo, fostering a strong sense of pride and belonging among students and staff.

Beyond the classroom, OFGO seating was chosen to create inviting spaces where students can relax, collaborate, or study independently

extending learning beyond traditional classroom walls and supporting social connection and self-expression.

“It was a pleasure working with Spaces Inc. to purchase furniture for our new school. The customer service was outstanding throughout the process, which included staff presentations, multiple product and design meetings, and a genuine interest in finding the best solutions for our spaces. Many staff and students have shared positive feedback about the furniture in our classrooms and common areas. The flexible seating options truly enhance our learning environments and multipurpose spaces. I would highly recommend working with Spaces Inc. for any school furniture needs. While I appreciate the contributions of their entire team, Craig’s ongoing service was exceptional.”
