The new Elsie Fabian School stands as a home for contemporary and cultural learning for K–9 students in Fort McKay, Alberta. Spanning 60,000 square feet, this architectural showpiece reflects the strength, pride, and vision of the Fort McKay First Nation.

The school features a full-sized gymnasium with a second-story running track, Career and Technology Foundations labs, and bright, welcoming classrooms designed to foster student engagement. Outdoor spaces support a variety of sports and recreation opportunities, creating a well-rounded environment for learning and growth.

More than just a building, the Elsie Fabian School represents a sense of renewal for the Nation - strengthening community values and symbolizing continued growth, health, and prosperity. It serves as a catalyst for reconnecting Fort McKay’s youth with their Cree, Dene, and Métis heritage.

The school is operated by a local educational authority and delivers a modified Alberta curriculum that celebrates and integrates Fort McKay’s rich cultural identity.
