Ecole Louis Riel Catholique School
Project Spotlight: École Catholique Louis Riel
Grande Prairie, Alberta
Facility Type: Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8
École Catholique Louis Riel has been heralded as a place of joy and creativity – a vibrant community hub where the potential of every learner can be fully realized. Located in Grande Prairie’s O’Brien Lake subdivision, this French immersion pre-kindergarten to grade 8 school was designed to meet the demands of 21st-century learning.
The building emphasizes natural light and collaboration, featuring a two-storey learning commons with an agora stair flex space, a modern gymnasium, and open learning areas that foster creativity and connection.
Spaces Inc worked closely with the school’s leadership team to bring their vision to life – creating dynamic, flexible, and sensory-rich environments that support every learner. Each wing of the school features breakout learning commons between classrooms, with garage doors that open into shared spaces. Furniture solutions include grassy mounds, rubber logs, curved soft seating, and modular blocks that invite movement, exploration, and collaboration.
“The goal was to create a ‘wow’ factor that would inspire both students and staff,” explains Craig Ward, Education Projects Director at Spaces Inc. “It’s about getting the most out of a space while ensuring it meets the school’s needs and budget.”
Teachers benefit from mobile and adjustable furniture that supports flexibility and adaptability. The result is an engaging and comfortable environment where students can learn in ways that best suit them.
École Catholique Louis Riel stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design and collaboration. Through innovative furniture and space planning, Spaces Inc has helped create a school that embodies joy, creativity, and innovation - leaving a lasting impact on the Grande Prairie community for years to come.
