Project Spotlight: Ardrossan Elementary School
Ardrossan Elementary School stands as a vibrant example of renewal and progress, honoring its history while embracing a sustainable future. After serving the community for nearly 40 years, the original school was replaced with a modern, energy-efficient facility designed to meet the needs of today’s learners.
Designed and built to high environmental standards, the new Ardrossan Elementary School achieved LEED Gold certification, surpassing its original Silver target. The building features a durable metal stud and drywall structure, EIFS exterior wall system, and SBS roofing, with ten modular classrooms seamlessly integrated into the main facility.
The 62,850-square-foot school includes 25 classrooms, a learning commons, four ancillary spaces, a music room, gymnasium, and administrative areas. Operable partitions between classrooms allow for flexible, collaborative learning environments, with writable surfaces encouraging creativity and engagement.
Sustainability played a major role throughout the project. Extensive measures were implemented to manage stormwater, minimize dust, and reduce waste - resulting in 95% of construction materials being diverted from landfills. The facility uses high-efficiency plumbing fixtures to reduce potable water consumption by 30%, incorporates ozone-friendly systems, and uses low-VOC materials to promote healthy indoor air quality.
Natural light floods the school through clerestory windows and a bright central atrium, creating a welcoming and energizing atmosphere. Colour also plays a key role in the design, each area of the school is inspired by the four seasons, with vibrant accents helping students navigate the space and connect learning with their environment.
We were proud to furnish Ardrossan Elementary School with all classroom seating, tables, and desks, creating cohesive, functional spaces that complement the school’s forward-thinking design.
The result is a modern, environmentally responsible, and engaging learning environment - one that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and community for generations to come.
